Our PAB posed a question about whether people with cancer should get priority for flu vaccines

It’s that time of the year when we are encouraged to get our flu jabs.  For some groups, it is free and we get reminders.  For others, it’s not so easy.

The PAB has asked if, as people affected by cancer – we should have priority over other bookings for our flu vaccines.  We are particularly worried as we know that the vaccines often run out, resulting in a delay until the next batch arrives.

The difficulty is that many groups of people also need the flu vaccine as a matter of priority (people with or caring for those with heart disease, diabetes, auto immune conditions and the frail elderly).

The best advice is to phone your GP surgery (or look online) and book into one of their flu vaccine sessions as soon as you can.  If this isn’t possible, phone your local chemist – for example Boots.  They have a great booking in system and you can pick a time to suit you.

If you are worried, contact your GP and explain your situation – they are the best people to help.
