Investing in Our Cancer Support Workers
EoE Cancer Support Worker 2-Day Programme
Date: 5–6 November 2025
Venue: The Derby, St Pancras, London
Why we did it
Cancer Support Workers play a vital role in delivering compassionate, patient-centred cancer care, guiding patients through complex pathways, supporting families, and easing pressures on busy clinical teams. Despite their proven impact, many CSW posts were initially short-term and now face challenges in securing sustained funding. We know that access to high-quality training is often limited by cost and logistics, as travel, accommodation, and time away from work all create barriers. This event was designed to remove those obstacles and invest directly in our CSWs, to equip them with new knowledge, boost their confidence, and remind them just how valued and essential they are to the cancer care workforce. Funded through national education monies, the event offered two full days of expert-led training, wellbeing support, and peer networking for less than £700 per head, including travel and overnight accommodation
What we did
We hosted 60 Cancer Support Workers from 16 hospital sites across the East of England at a fully funded residential training event in London. The programme brought together three expert partners, FrontLine, Mind CPSL and Plain Sailing Motivation, to deliver an energising mix of basic cancer 101, communication, emotional intelligence, resilience and motivation training.
