The East of England Cancer Strategy sets out our ambition to improve cancer services for patients, carers and staff over the next five years. This includes embracing innovation and supporting our workforce to deliver world class cancer care. The strategy was developed in collaboration with key stakeholders, including NHS partners, the voluntary and charity sector, and most importantly patients, who are at the heart of our strategy.
As part of our work to develop the new strategy, we carried out a detailed assessment of cancer services in the East of England and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. The new East of England Cancer Outcomes Project: The Impact of the Pandemic Report can be found here.
Cancer referrals, treatments and diagnoses were impacted during the pandemic. We saw a reduction in early stage diagnoses and a rise in emergency presentations that, without the mitigations and actions described in the strategy, will potentially impact on survival outcomes for patients.
Amanda Pleavin has recorded a message setting out the importance of the strategy and highlighting its ambitions. You can watch the video on our social media pages or on our strategy page here. Over the coming days we’ll share a series of videos that include key stakeholders that focus on the key.
