Gini - covid injections.jpgCancer nurse Gini Melesi is never off duty, as she gives up her weekends and annual leave to join the NHS Covid-19 vaccination effort at the St Neots Priory Centre.

More than three million vaccinations have now been given across the East of England

Gini is Head of Transformation at the East of England Cancer Alliance (South) and has enjoyed being back on the front line, vaccinating hundreds of people a day as the biggest vaccination programme in health service history continues to accelerate.

Gini worked as a cancer nurse for thirty years, including setting up an award winning community cancer service in Cambridgeshire before joining the Cancer Alliance, which supports local NHS and partner organisations to transform cancer services across the region.

Outside her day job, Gini devotes weekends and days off as Clinical Lead at the vaccination centre.

She said: "I was determined to get involved and use my skills to make sure that as many people as possible are protected from Covid-19 by having the jab.

"It has been a great experience; people are friendly and delighted that the vaccination programme is such a success.

"In my role I am particularly keen to ensure that cancer patients are protected which means that everyone invited should have the jab, to protect themselves and others."
