Tributes to Jennifer Pope, Co-Founder of Little C Club

TRIBUTES have been paid to Jennifer Pope, co-founder of Little C Club, who died on Friday 8 April 2022.

Assistant Head Teacher Jennifer worked closely with NHS nurse Nicola Owen to create Little C Club flashcards and other materials to help families talk about cancer with their children, following their own diagnosis of secondary breast cancer.

Both in their 30s and living with cancer, they realised there were few resources to help their own children, aged between three and nine, talk about cancer.

The pair designed and commissioned the colourful flashcards to help families open up difficult conversations and answer questions about cancer.

The East of England Cancer Alliances have been working in partnership with Jennifer and Nicola to develop further resources for the benefit of NHS patients. These were launched at an event to coincide with the NHS 73rd birthday last year.

Nick Hulme, Chair of Cancer Alliances East of England said: "Our teams and NHS colleagues throughout the region have been privileged to get to know both Jen and Nic through our ongoing collaboration with the Little C Club’s groundbreaking work.

"Jen's talents, sense of fun, her generosity and commitment to make a difference for families facing a cancer diagnosis, never failed to illuminate and inspire.”

Ray Anderson, co-chair of the Cancer Alliances Patient Partnership Group, said: “Jen channelled her cancer experience to help others. We were always hugely impressed by her work through Little C Club in breaking down fears and barriers about cancer. She was a true champion for patients and their families.”

Nicola said: “Working with Jen at the Little C Club has been an exciting challenge, it allowed us both to find light in the face of our own cancer diagnosis, and I am so very proud of all we have achieved together. Most importantly, though myself and Jen were the closest of friends, her loss leaves an unfillable void and a strengthened determination to keep her light shining bright through the work of Little C.”
